A wall is a wall is a wall….. but this is a special wall as it surrounds a special place in the village where those we have known and loved are laid to rest. A quiet place where people can go and contemplate, remember, pray, reflect. A lot of hard work has gone into its creation from the planning and design to the actual building and so it is only fitting that we have a special occasion to give thanks for the Wall. It was decided that this would be on Sunday 24th September 2006 at 4.30pm. The day started well with a cloud burst late morning, that set nerves jangling but in the event the sun shone when it needed to. We were lucky enough to have The Ven Richard Seed, Archdeacon of York, Phil Thomas, from the Diocesan Advisory Committee, members of the Donovan and the Ward family and representatives from every stage of the Wall’s creation. A simple service in Church and then the congregation moved across the road to the Wall where Richard blessed the Wall.
Next time you’re walking along Westfield Lane, passed the churchyard, spare a moment to look at the Wall and remember that it is a special Wall.
