Youth Fellowship is a Christian based youth club and was developed in 2002 as a club for teenagers. Founder members were those who had been confirmed but it was open for others to go. Not long after it was developed, the rules were changed to allow younger people to join. Now young people from the age of eight to the age of sixteen can attend.

Each year at half term the members go on a trip.  Previous trips have been bowling, the cinema and ice skating.

Once a year, the group goes on a weekend residential visit to Low Mill outdoor activity centre near Askrigg in the Yorkshire Dales doing many activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, caving, a high ropes course and the zip-wire. There is also a common room where games such as table tennis and pool are available..

Low Mill 7-9 May 2010

Another year at Low Mill meant another year of exciting activities and a weekend with friends. This year saw a lot of new faces join the weekend activities and from what I could see they thoroughly enjoyed it.

As soon as we arrived we were thrown into the first activity and split into two teams to go on the night walk, this is a tradition when visiting Low Mill! The younger members of the group take the maps and lead us back to the centre. The speed of the walking always increases when the people with the maps realise the faster they are, the faster they will get their dinner!

Abseiling was on the agenda for all three age groups and even though Debbie is afraid of heights, she overcame her fear like many others and managed to abseil down the bridge!  When the oldest group went caving, some were a little scared but even though there were a few tears whilst in the caves we worked as a team and helped each other through! Apparently it was ‘dry’ caving, however I think Alison would agree with me that the cave was anything but dry!

The two younger groups had the excitement of going gorge walking, however there was not as much water as previous years, but that didn’t stop the groups from throwing people into the water or throwing welly juice on each other!

Saturday night games saw everyone come together on the field to enjoy a game of rounders. However, my team, and I am sure the rest will agree were cheated out of first position by one rounder due to the cheating of a certain umpire, mentioning no names...Alison! A game of human table football was played before the boys went to play the normal game of football whilst the rest went into the centre and played a variety of games which are available there.

All in all I think that the weekend was enjoyed by all who participated (even the leaders!) and probably one of the best Low Mill weekends I have been to! The members of whom the Low Mill experience was their first, were thrilled at the idea of being able to go again next year!

On behalf of the Youth Fellowship I would like to thank all the leaders who gave up a weekend (but who secretly were desperate to come again!) to come to the Dales with 30 teenagers and partake in activities which some would not even dare to do!
